Kornelimünster

Take a step back in time and wander the cobble-stoned streets of this picture perfect town. Steeped in ancient religious history, Kornelimünster Abbey dates back to the first century. 

We will learn about the half timber framed houses along the river, photograph the many gorgeous doorways bursting with flower and enjoy views from the church which overlooks the rooftops.

Kornelimünster is a 40 minute drive from GK/Brunssum. Please wear walking shoes and we will be taking lunch in one of the most delicious cafe's (the cakes are to die for). Carpooling is an option if you prefer not to drive. Maximum of 6 students.

Stolberg

Come adventure around this quaint castle town on the edge of the Eiffel. Every narrow street is filled with stone dwellings, half timber homes and windings paths up to the castle and Medieval fortress which over looks the old town. 

Stolberg was an important centre of brass production in the 17th - 19th centuries. We will follow the copper vein route while discovering the rich history of this romanic town while wandering the narrow cobbled streets. 


Stolberg is a 40 minute drive from GK/Brunssum. Please wear walking shoes and we will be taking lunch in one of the many delicious cafe's in the old market place. Carpooling is an option if you prefer not to drive. Maximum of 6 students.

Monschau

Let's explore this incredible medieval town, traversed by the river Rur. Monschau is a place where time has stood still for over 3 centuries, dominated by picture-book timber-framed houses with window flower-boxes, medieval walls, romantic cobbled streets, and quaint shops tucked away in obscure corners.

We will hike our way up to the old ruined watch tower (Haller-Ruine) which gives impressive views of the town and Rur Valley below. With over 300 listed buildings we will visit many sites including a 150 year old brewery and the 120 year old mustard mills (Senfmühle Monschau) which the town is famous for. 

Monschau is 1.3 hours from GK/Brunssum. Please wear walking shoes and we will be taking lunch in of the many delicious cafe's in the town. Carpooling is an option if you prefer not to drive. Maximum of 6 students.

Cochem

Delve into the Mosel region, the land of romantic vineyards, magnificent landscapes and historic castles along the winding Mosel river. 

Cochem dates back to the year 866 and boasts a beautifully preserved old market square with half-timbered Tudor shops, cafes, town hall, mustard sellers and onion shaped tower church. After touring the town we will relax in the vineyards, sampling some of the best wines in Germany at family run winery. We will enjoy a guided tour of the Reichsburg, the largest castle on the Mosel.  With its delicate bays and imposing battlements, we will also enjoy incredible views of the Mosel river and colourful roofs tops of the town below. 

Cochem is 2 hours from GK/Brunssum. Please wear sensible shoes for walking. We will be wine tasting, enjoying lunch and dinner before heading home. Carpooling is an option if you prefer not to drive. Maximum of 6 students.

Burg Eltz

Let's explore this incredible medieval castle and grounds, nestled in the hills above the Moselle River. This fairytale masterpiece built on a 230 ft rock spur, was built on an important Roman trade route between rich farmlands and their markets.

The castle dates back to the 9th century and  the Lords and Ladies of the Eltz Family have been living here since the 12th century, 33 generations ago. 


Burg Eltz is a 2 hour drive from GK/Brunssum area. Please wear hiking books and we will be taking lunch at the castle cafe. Carpooling is an option if you prefer not to drive. Maximum of 6 students.
